David can hardly believe it: tomorrow, it's off to Tokyo, where he will spend the next months living with a host family and studying at the university. What was he thinking? Arriving in Japan, he is overwhelmed by the fast-paced vitality and complxity of the megalopolis Toyko. Here, he is one of millions, without family or friends, left to his own devices. Living though highs and lows, David manages to etsablish himself in Tokyo - finding friends, jobs, playing in two bands. It's just the women he has no luck with. One day, a photographer stops him on the street. Even though he can't imagine what she wants from him, a tattooed ex-punker, he decides to go to the shoot. Three weeks later, photos are published...

David Schumann
In 2006, David Schumann (32), student of Japanese Studies from Cologne, wrote a column called "The Tokyo Diaries" in the Ox-Fanzine about his life as an exchange student in Tokyo. Basically by coincidence, he became a model and graced covers and spreads in several renowned japanese magazines. His story has already been covered in several important German media.
